Singing Day

From: Carol Hughes and Anne Jordan Date: 22 January 2012
Thank you to everyone in the St George's Singers who helped to make Saturday such an enjoyable day.
The organising of the event and the "crowd control" were fantastic, as was the singing!
We really enjoyed ourselves and are already looking forward to next year's event.
P.S. The soup and cakes were delicious! |

Just to say many thanks to you and all the other members of the St George's Singers who made yesterday such a wonderful day. The musical direction was superb and the concert was very much enjoyed by my guests.
The organisation was amazing and the food excellent. It was an all round success and although this was the first time I have taken part in one of your singing days, it will certainly not be my last.
Many thanks for EVERYTHING! |

From: Liz Stone Date: 22 January 2012
Just wanted to thank you and your "team" for yesterday. It was a fabulous day and I really enjoyed it. The singing was definitely a challenge, only having sung a couple of pieces from it before, but I had a great sense of achievement at the end.
The organisation was fantastic and the day ran very smoothly, not to mention the yummy soup, butties and cakes!! I certainly hope to sing again with you all in the future.
Once again, many thanks |

From: Lyn Cooper Date: 22 January 2012
On Saturday I attended your superb singing day. In the past the nature of my work has made it impossible to commit to a quality choir, but over the years I have attended many singing days and weekends, including yours. This Saturday was, without doubt, the best I have ever attended. The conductor was superb, as was the quality of the singing overall, and the performance was one I was proud to be part of.
If I tell you that it has taken me 7 hours to get home tonight (usually a 2 hour max journey) and I am still smiling.......

Many thanks for a lovely day yesterday --- organisation, singing, food and company all excellent as usual. I preferred the venue to St. George's --- seating slightly more comfortable, no pillars getting in the way and the choir less disjointed.
Thank you again

St John Passion
|
From: Roger Scoones Date: 20 April 2011
I was sitting up as high as you can sit, at the back of the gallery, where I rarely sit. My hearing is not good, but I could hear every word of the choir and soloists. I cannot recall hearing St John Passion before, so I came to it completely new. I just want to thank you for a truly amazing performance; it was quite superb and I enjoyed every minute of it - right to the very end. Well done! I hope you enjoyed singing it. |

Albert and I were so grateful for sharing the Bach evening on Tuesday. We must congratulate the choir on a splendidly controlled yet dramatic performance. (It is quite an experience singing St John’s Passion isn’t it?) We hope to bring a group again in the summer to Gorton! |

Singing Day

From: Peter Smith Date: 16 January 2011
Some people ask us why we travel to Poynton for a choral day; yesterday was the answer. It was well organised, the food was excellent, and not least the singing was unforgettable, and on behalf of the Hathersage people I would like to thank you and your music director for a wonderful day and long may they continue.

German Masterworks
|
From: Anne Lever Date: 27 June 2010
I felt I must write and tell you how much I enjoyed the German Masterworks concert yesterday evening! I was introduced to you about 5 years ago thro' 2 friends who are in your choir and have been an active fan ever since. I was so glad the flyer with the newsletter arrived on Friday!
What was special about last night? Even the thought of sitting in a cold church on a warm summer evening was enticing but the music itself was so vital, alive and engaging. I particularly liked the solo, as an 'old favourite' it is easy to be comfortable with it, but the clarity, brilliance and serenity of the piece was outstanding. I also enjoyed the Mendelssohn organ solo - I am not aware that I had heard it before but it sent my imagination soaring. And to me the choir became a harmonious orchestra full of passion and joy.
Thank you all so much for a wonderful evening. |

I am writing to thank you for another brilliant singing day at Poynton yesterday. Unlike previous years, I had not previously sung the two works before, but I'm glad I came along and took part. The arrangements were first class as usual, and the food was as good and plentiful as ever! Thank you very much to all involved, and hopefully I shall see you all again in January 2011! |

In a Monastery Garden
|
From: Anthony Holt Date: 23 June 2009
My friends and I greatly enjoyed the Singers' performance on Saturday: a powerful and well-rehearsed choir singing cherished folk songs. A marvellous night out!
The performance of Britten's settings for English poets was lovely but for me, the highlights were the Rilke fragments which touched on a particular spirituality within the hallowed walls of this beloved monastery. I genuinely did not want these gorgeous songs to end!
I very much look forward to your next visit to the monastery next April. |

From: Anne Haydock Date: 18 January 2007
I took part in your Carmina Burana Singing Day on Saturday 13th January, and have to tell you how much I enjoyed it.
Everything about the day was perfect due, no doubt, to how much time and effort was put in by the organisers and caterers, and also to the talent and enthusiasm of the conductor, accompanists, soloists and percussionists. Please pass on my thanks to as many people as you can.
The Singing Day really lifted my spirits at this depressing time of year, and I already have next year’s date in my diary.
With many thanks and best wishes to you at St. George’s for your ventures in 2007. |

Singing Day

From: Wendy Lonsdale Date: 15 January 2007
Just a brief line to say how much I enjoyed the day on Saturday. It was extremely well organized and the experience of singing with so many other people was fantastic. All three friends who attended were amazed at the professional performance which had been put on in so many hours and all found it very emotional. The soloists were particularly commended and I am only sorry we could not see their facial expressions which were apparently very entertaining!
I hope to attend next year if possible. |

I thought this was an awsome singing experience; thankyou for including me at the last minute. The Singers are truly fortunate to have such an expressive Conductor - I felt truly included in both the rehearsal and the performance. |

Christmas Concert
|
From: Peter Bayley, Chairman, Stockport and District Branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society Date: 15 December 2006
I would like to thank the Choir for the really enjoyable concert last Saturday.
Also I would like to express my personal thanks and that of the entire MS community in Stockport and District for your sponsorship of the Stockport Branch. Through ticket sales and the post concert collection we managed to raise the magnificent sum of £442, it will be put to really good use to assist both local people and fund much needed research.
I would like to express my admiration for your very innovative approach to sponsorship and hope that it will be possible for you to continue with this type of arrangement, either with ourselves or with other charities in the future. |
