REPORTING TO PARENTS
|
St Mary’s Primary School recognises that good teamwork among parents, children and schools is the key to a successful education for your child. Each year we will provide parents with two reports so that you can see what your child is doing and how they are progressing. In addition, there will be parents’ meetings, which offer you the opportunity to discuss how your child is doing in school, and you can contact the school at anytime to discuss any matter that you wish to raise. Our new style of ‘pupil reports’ will help you to know more about the curriculum which each child follows and describes what has been taught and areas where you can help. We welcome any comments or additional information from parents to help us provide the best possible education for your child.
ii) We are always anxious to develop good relationships between the home and the school, and we attempt to communicate with parents through: a) regular newsletters b) Parents’ Meetings c) Providing the opportunity for the new intake to visit the Primary 1 classroom before they are due to start school (and for the Primary 1 class teacher to visit the children in the Nursery setting) d) The Parents’ Association e) The School Board f) Encouraging Parent Helpers to work in the school. g) Arranging special interviews at the request of parents who may wish to discuss particular concerns regarding their child’s progress h) Inviting parents and the wider community to attend special events throughout the Session.
Should a parent have a concern about their child, this should initially be raised with the child’s class teacher. It is also possible to organise a mutually convenient meeting after school by prior arrangement. If the concern is not resolved, parents should contact Mrs Weightman, the Principal Teacher, who will endeavour to provide a satisfactory outcome. The matter will be referred to Miss Nolan, the Head Teacher, if the difficulty continues. If it cannot be resolved at school level, the parent should take the concern to one of the Support Officers at the School Development Service. The contact telephone number may be obtained from the school Office.
