TRANSITION TO PRIMARY 1
|
The first transitions into Early Years settings and on into Primary Education are amongst the most important of educational transitions.
To ensure that children find the transition to P1 as stress free as possible, we will: • ensure that all children entering P1 at a particular school, have at the very least, several opportunities to socialise together beforehand. • inform the primary schools, who from their catchment area attend St Mary’s Nursery Centre • invite the receiving school teachers to visit their prospective pupils in Nursery • provide a report for each child, a copy of which is sent to the receiving primary school • discuss the reports with the primary school teacher
With particular regard to St Mary’s Primary School we will:
• plan a programme of visits to Primary One • provide opportunities for the children to have access to the school playground • match children with a “buddy” from P7 to help ease the unfamiliarity of the playground situation • We will also arrange a meeting in June for parents of new entrants, at which arrangements for the start of the term will be shared and the P1 curriculum explained.
