New Assistant Musical Director appointed
We’re delighted to welcome Robert Brooks as our new Assistant MD, following Joe Judge’s departure to take up a position as MD of Leeds Guild of Singers.
Robert has worked with many members of St George’s Singers previously, when he has conducted The Cheshire Consort, and we’re thrilled he’ll be working with us on a more regular basis.

Messiah
Our performance of Handel’s Messiah on 13 January in Norbury Church, Hazel Grove, was a tremendous success. Graham Eccles masqueraded brilliantly on the organ as a baroque orchestra, and the soloists from The Cheshire Consort (Joe Judge, Ranald McCusker, Robert Brooks, and (a last-minute replacement for the indisposed Leonie Maxwell) Monica Marciato blended beautifully with the choir and each other. But the star of the show (from the choir’s viewpoint) was musical director Neil Taylor, whose sensitive and faultless conducting ensured we brought out the true meaning and drama of the text. A great evening for singers and audience alike. |

St George’s in Costa Rica
The Choir has just returned from an amazing tour to Costa Rica, where we sang in San Jose with our friends from El Caf Chorale in Will Todd’s Mass in Blue, and received a standing ovation for our concert of British music in Alajuela Cathedral. You can read more about our experiences in a special edition of Hemiola - click here to download. |
